Men's Tennis Upended At Marquette
Jan. 24, 2002
Milwaukee, Wis. - University of Illinois at Chicago men's tennis coach Hans Neufeld brought his young squad to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday, and ran into a tough Marquette squad that proved too strong for the Flames. The Golden Eagles upended UIC 7-0, but there seemed to be a positive that came through in the loss. UIC Freshman Ken Howrey battled Marquette's Troy Delmege for three sets at No. 2 singles, before falling to the Australian 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 in a nail-biter. Howrey, along with junior leader Nick Bodmer have the potential to be a formidable duo come Horizon League play. Bodmer was on the short end of a 6-0, 6-1 score to Marquette star Raj Gill at No. 1 singles on Wednesday. The Flames hit the court again Saturday, Jan. 26, when IUPUI makes a visit. Match-time is set for noon at the Hinsdale Racquet Club. Results Singles No. 1: Raj Gill (MU) d. Nick Bodmer (UIC) 6-0, 6-1 No. 2: Troy Delmege (MU) d.
