Eastern Michigan Tops UIC Men's Tennis
Jan. 22, 2000 Ypsilanti, Mich. – The UIC men’s tennis team opened the spring season on a sour note, falling 5-2 at Eastern Michigan on Friday night. Freshman Karl Morgan and senior Jason Kerr each notched singles wins from the Flames. Morgan, now 10-4 on the season, won his fourth straight match, coming back to win in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) over EMU’s Jake Stricker at No. 2 singles. Kerr improved to 3-4 on the year with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Mike Case in the No. 3 singles position. Nick Bodmer, competing in the No. 1 singles slot, was a tough-luck loser Firday night, falling in three competitive sets 7-6, 4-6, 6-7 (12-11), to Jason Yue. Bodmer and Morgan teamed up to give the Flames a point at No. 1 doubles, defeating Yue and Rob Harrigan 8-2. The Flames, now 0-4 the season, travel to Ft. Wayne, Ind., on Saturday to take on IUPU-Ft. Wayne.
