Men's Tennis Edged By Western Michigan, 5-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Alexander Raa and Maurizio Feoli came away with wins in their respective singles matches, but the UIC men’s tennis team (0-2) could not overcome Western Michigan on Friday evening, dropping a 5-2 decision at West Hills Athletic Club.

The Broncos took the first point in doubles after winning at all three positions. Raa and Rahul Kamath fell at No. 1 to Nadin Indre and Ruben Greiner, 8-3, as Alan Reifer and Isaac Lloveras paired at No. 2 against Ross VanderPloeg and Mac Shideler, also falling 8-3.  At No. 3, Feoli joined Christopher Cole against Stephen Payne and Aaron Wong, but went down 8-5.

The Flames were able to come away with a pair of wins in singles.  Raa captured the first win for UIC, as he defeated Greiner in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 3 position.  For the second week in a row, Feoli grabbed his match, battling Andrew Cahn, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, at No. 6.

Cole extended his match at No. 4 against Wong, but fell in the third with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 final.

At No. 1, Lloveras lost his match, 6-2, 6-3, to Indre, as Reifer could not hang on at No. 2 against VanderPloeg, 7-5, 6-3, and Kamath was unable to keep up with Pablo Mora at No. 5, ultimately falling 6-0, 6-3.

The Flames are back on the courts tomorrow, as they face Chicago State in Hinsdale, Ill., at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Hinsdale Racquet Club.
