CHICAGO, Ill. - The UIC men's tennis team opened the 2010 season with a hard-fought 6-1 lose against city rival DePaul at the Lakeshore Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, the Flames took the third position match when Scott Shepardson and Luis Gonzaga defeated Douglas Perrin and Alasdair Graetz 9-8 (4).

Gonzaga gave UIC their lone point in singles play beating Graetz 6-2, 7-5 in the fifth position match.

"Overall I'm really pleased with the team's afford." said head coach Hans Neufeld. "I'm looking forward to the upcoming season."

The Flames will head to Evanston, Ill. on Jan. 17 to take on Northwestern at 7 p.m.
