The UIC men's tennis team kicked off the fall season with the River Forest Collegiate Invitational at the River Forest Tennis Club this weekend. The Flames competed against seven teams from Belmont, Butler, Morehead State, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Xavier and Horizon League rival Youngstown State.
The UIC men's tennis team will open the 2014-15 season at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12. The three-day event will serve as the primary meet for the Fall 2014 season, and will be held at River Forest Tennis Club. Action is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT each day.
UIC closed out regular season competition with a win over Youngstown State. The Flames defeated the Penguins 4-3 at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. Prior to the matches, UIC recognized seniors Alexander Raa and Alan Reifer.
UIC extended its win streak to three when the Flames downed Bradley on Sunday, 4-3, at the Clubs at River City-North. Prior to their win against Bradley, the Flames had victories over Western Illinois and Chicago.
The Horizon League announced on Wednesday that 10 UIC student-athletes garnered Academic All-League recognition for the 2014 spring semester. Softball led the way with three honorees, while baseball and women's tennis earned two apiece. Men's and women's track and field and men's tennis grabbed one laurel each.
Coming down to the last match of the day, the UIC men's tennis team fell to Valparaiso in the first round of the Horizon League Championship tournament 4-3 on Friday evening at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
