CHICAGO- The UIC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Western Illinois and Olivet Nazarene in their fifth home meet of the season on Saturday. Competition gets underway at 2 p.m. (CT) inside the Flames Natatorium.
The Flames are coming off a three-week break when they last competed at the TYR Invitational hosted by Northwestern at the Norris Aquatic Center Nov. 22-24. The men’s squad (2-5, 1-2 HL) took fourth with 370.50 points, while the women’s team (2-5, 1-2 HL) placed fifth (385 points).
Women’s diver, Whitney Johnson, stunned yet again taking first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards with scores of 279.75 and 277, respectively.
Sprinter Danel Voorhees missed first by .01 in the 50 butterfly with a time of 25.30.
Men’s swimmer, Kei Ishimaru sped through the 200 fly, achieving a season-best time of 1:49.26 and placing third in the event.
The quartet of Mike Reed, Vince Errichiello, Nick Kowaleski, and Sebastian Ostrowski touched fourth in the 400 free relay clocking in at 3:04.17.
Heading into Saturday’s meet, the Flames hold an 11-1 record against the Leathernecks on both the men’s and women’s side. This is the first meeting between UIC and the Olivet Nazarene Tigers.
