CHICAGO – UIC swimming & diving head coach Paul Moniak announced on Wednesday that three student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to compete with the Flames in the 2013-14 season.  The men’s team welcomes Tyler Pastore and Nicholas Kowaleski, as the women’s squad adds Nikki Martinez.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of these student-athletes to our 2013-14 team,” Moniak said.  “They represent a solid start to the recruiting class for next fall.”

Pastore joins as an addition to the diving team after competing as a member of Windy City Diving.  The Lockport, Ill., native placed 18th at the 2012 IHSA State Meet and was a 2012 USA Diving Spring Region finalist in the one-meter and three-meter.

Kowaleski comes to UIC as a specialized swimmer in sprint and mid-distance.  The South Elgin, Ill., native is a member of St. Charles Swim Club and was a 2012 All-State IHSA honorable mention.

Martinez is the first signee for the women’s team and enters as a mid-distance freestyler.  The Eau Claire, Wis., native competes alongside the Eau Claire YMCA Marlins and is the sister of former men’s standout, Luke Martinez.
