Junior diver Chuck Rock (Palos Heights, Ill./Stagg) was named the Midwestern Collegiate Conference swimming Athlete of the Week it was announced today.

Rock took first in both the one- and three-meter diving events against Butler on Oct. 23. He recorded an NCAA Zone C qualifying score with a career-best mark of 290.10 points in the one-meter dive. Rock also took first in the three-meter dive with a score of 284.90. His performance helped UIC to a 144-77 victory over conference rival Butler.

"Chuck gave us a great performance in the diving events," said UIC Head Coach John Christie. "That he qualified for the NCAA Zone meet is a great accomplishment. That's the kind of performance we are looking for in our program."

Rock's zone-qualifying score earns him a place at the NCAA Zone C Qualifying Meet in Minneapolis on March 10-11. The top divers from that meet advance to the NCAA National Championships later in March.

Rock is one of the Flames' top returning divers from a year ago, finishing fourth in both the one- and three-meter dives at last year's MCC Championship Meet.

Rock and the Flames return to action at noon on Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Northwestern Relays in Evanston, Ill.
