    CHICAGO –The UIC men’s and women’s swimming teams head to Eastern Illinois on Saturday for a meet with EIU and IUPUI. Competition is set to get underway at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Padovan Pool in Charleston, Ill.

    In UIC most recent outing at Oakland, the men’s squad (0-2, 0-2 HL) fought until the end, but was outscored by the Golden Grizzlies in a 179-119 final. Sophomore
    Christian Grobe was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.98. Sophomore Ryoto Kuwahara flew through the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.28 to come out on top.

    The quartet of Nick Kowaleski,
    Sebastian Ostrowski, and Peter and Vince Errichello sped through the 400 free relay with a time of 3:09.51.

    Four members of the women’s squad (1-1, 1-1 HL)
    Anne Jacobsen, Monica Pinkus, Melanie Waszak, and Katherine Hare proved to be best in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.22. Pinkus, Hare, and Waszak were joined by Kelsey Millin to take home first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.68.

    Pinkus also came out on top in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.97, winning by nearly two seconds. She then went on to take home the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.21.

    Heading into Saturday’s competition, the Flames have defeated the Panthers the past 10 seasons on the men’s and women’s side, including last year’s win of 165-67 by the men and 140-92 by the women. Eastern Illinois’ men’s squad is coming off of a 132-77 loss to St. Louis, while the women’s squad is split at 1-1 after defeating Butler, 154-108, and falling to St. Louis, 134-75.
