University Of Illinois - Chicago Swimming & Diving Alumni & Friends Newsletter
Dear University of Illinois Chicago Alumni & Friends:
The summer has flown by and another exciting season awaits. This year's team, 24 men and 24 women, started training on September 8th in preparation for the 2004-2005 swimming and diving campaign.
Our competition schedule is located at the Schedule/Results link at the top of this page. We hope to see you at UIC or on the road. The 2005 Horizon League Championships will be held at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, WI (about 10 miles northwest of Milwaukee). Last season, we continued to play the role as Horizon League spoiler as both teams finished in fourth place. In addition, we broke 12 school records, six each on the men's and women's teams.
With the leadership of captains Chris Kaczor, Ari Bernstein, Laura Martensen, Christine Hare, Caitlin Carey, a talented group of returning athletes, and a solid freshman class, we feel confident about the season. You can follow the results, as well as all of UIC athletic news, on our web page, uicflames.com.
As always, fundraising is critical to the success of our program. Currently, we have a successful fundraising mechanism in place, the Chicago Masters Swim Club. We are extremely fortunate and lucky to have their loyalty and support, and they are a major contributor towards our Winter Training Trip.
If you are continuing to compete in swimming, the Central Masters Swim Association recently announced the 2005 Masters State Championships will be held at UIC March 31 - April 3. The Chicago Masters Swim Club will co-host the event with the Evanston Masters. More information can be found on the CMSA web site, cmsa.org.
We hope you share our commitment to make UIC Swimming & Diving one of the elite teams in the Horizon League. We are making progress, but a great deal of work remains. If you can help in any way, please let us know. If you wish to make a donation, please make checks payable to UIC (Men's or Women's) Swimming & Diving and send it to the address below.
