CHICAGO – The UIC men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams get set to participate in the annual Blue vs. Red meet on Saturday at the Flames Natatorium.  Featuring the likes of veterans and newcomers, competition is set for 10 a.m. (CT).

The Flames welcome back a combined total of 25 student-athletes, 12 on the men’s side and 13 on the women’s, after having a stand-out season.  During the 2011-12 campaign, UIC reached NCAA “B” Qualifying Standards in five events (men’s 200, 400 and 800 free relay, men’s 200 free and women’s 100 breast), as the men’s team set two school records and the women’s team set 12, including a Horizon League record of 2:00.87 in the 200 fly by Melanie Waszak.

With the men’s squad being captained by Josh Jacobson, Mike Greco and Brian Sivak, and Emily Gniatczyk and Waszak sharing duties as captains of the women’s squad, the Flames combine to bring in 20 newcomers, where the men bring in 12 and the women add eight.

Following the intersquad meet on Saturday, the Flames begin the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 13 on the road against Horizon League-foe Wright State.
