Swimming & Diving Earns Academic All-America Team Honors
July 6, 2005 Chicago, Ill.- For the third straight semester and the fifth time under head coach Paul Moniak's four-year tenure, the University of Illinois at Chicago men's and women's swimming and diving teams were given Academic All-America team designations for their academic performance this past spring by the College Swim Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. The women's team earned the honor with a team grade point average (G.P.A.) of 3.02 on a 4.0 scale in the Spring 2005 semester, while the men's team made the list with a 2.92 G.P.A. "It's great to extend this streak," said Moniak. "It's clear that as hard as our student-athletes work in the pool, they are working equally as hard in the classroom." Both teams were honored by the CSCAA for the Fall 2004 semester as well. Following outstanding competitive seasons for both squads, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been receiving plenty of recognition lately for their impressive academic work. The women's swimming and diving team was named UIC's Academic Team of the Year and placed six on the 2005 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll, while the men's team placed a school-best seven student-athletes on the League's Academic Honor Roll.
