May 10, 2012

CHICAGO - UIC men's and women's swimming & diving head coach Paul Moniak announced that five student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent for the 2012 season.  In total with the fall signees, the men's squad boasts nine newcomers, as the women add six.

"Combined with the student-athletes we signed in November, we are extremely optimistic about the incoming class this fall," Moniak said.

On the men's side, the squad welcomes in Ramiro Almaraz (Chicago, Ill./Currie High School), Mark Cieslieski (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South High School) and Rodolfo Zuniga (Caraca, Venezuela/Emil Friedman High School), while the women bring in Grace Miller (Aurora, Ill./Rosary High School) and Danel Voorhees (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap Community High School).

Almarez (mid-distance) is a Junior National Qualifier and competes for the Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club, while Zuniga (distance) is a Junior National Qualifier for Venezuela.  Cieslieski comes in and joins the diving team after competing for Windy City Diving and being a IHSA All-State qualifier in 2012.

Miller comes into the diving program as a AAU 17 & Under National Championship Qualifier and a IHSA All-State qualifier in 2011, while competing for DuPage Diving Academy.  Voorhees (sprint/mid-distance) competes for Peoria Area Water Wizards and is a member of National Honor Society.
