CHICAGO- The 2008-09 Winter Academic All-Horizon League Teams were recently unveiled, and UIC swimming and diving student-athletes Cameron Seebeck, Evan Dunn and Sonia Peterson made the grade by earning selections.

Seebeck, a junior sprint-freestyler and management major with a 3.86 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and Dunn, a sophomore mid-distance specialist and movement sciences major with a 3.35 GPA, were named to the Academic All-Horizon League Men's Swimming & Diving Team.

Peterson, a sophomore diver with a 3.94 GPA in her studies, was picked to the Academic All-League Women's Swimming and Diving Team.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.

The selections capped an outstanding week of academic excellence for head coach Paul Moniak's swimming and diving program. At the 2009 UIC Athletics Night of Champions held this past Tuesday, April 28, Peterson and Rahul Singh were honored for having the highest grade point averages for the women's and men's squads, respectively, while Peterson and fellow diver Laurel Heath were awarded the prestigious Avery Brundage Scholarship in a special presentation by UIC professor emeritus Jeff E. Lewis.

Seebeck was also recognized for being chosen to attend the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference held in late May in Orlando, Florida.

Academic and aquatic excellence continue to be equally prevalent in Moniak's program, which is coming off a banner season that was concluded by the men's swimming and diving team's first-ever Horizon League Championship.

Eight members of UIC's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named to the Fall 2008 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, and the Flames have a deep history in garnering College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American Team designation under Moniak's watch.
