    Official Horizon League Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League announced Thursday (April 10) that five UIC student-athletes earned 2013-14 Winter Academic All-League recognition. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports.

Women's Indoor Track and Field had four student-athletes awarded. Junior Tess Ehrhardt, who won the 3,000-meter run and took third in the one-mile run at the Indoor Championships, earned Winter Academic All-League recognition for the second consecutive year.

Junior Vince Errichiello with Men's Swimming and Diving was UIC's other honoree. Similar to Ehrhardt, Errichiello was honored on the Winter Academic All-League team for the second straight year.

“The athletes that were named to this winter’s All-Academic Teams are some of our department's standouts, both on and off the field." said UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt. "Our student-athletes have put in a tremendous amount of hard work in the classroom this year and we are thrilled to see them recognized. This is another public reflection of the hard work and diligence displayed by our women's track & field teams and head coach Jim Knoedel.”

A total of 76 student-athletes from six winter sports were honored in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits. A student-athlete must also be a starter or important reserve on his or her respective squad.
