CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams were honored as Scholar All-Americans for the Fall 2009 semester, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced on Thursday.

The Flames, who are familiar with success in both the classroom as well as the water, were one of 112 women's and 41 men's Division I programs acknowledged for earning over a 3.0 team GPA during the fall term.

The women's team, who compiled a team GPA of 3.36, is one of six Horizon League teams to receive the academic recognition, while the men's squad is the lone representative of the league, closing out the first half of the school year with a 3.16 GPA.

"The team's fall 2009 grade point average is among the highest we've had in eight years," said head coach Paul Moniak. "The coaching staff is extremely proud of this accomplishment as it reflects the dedication our student athletes possess regarding academic performance."

The Flames close out the regular season on the road this weekend at Cleveland State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
