CHICAGO - UIC swimming and diving freshman Clair Martin was named the Horizon League's female swimmer of the week for the period ending February 4, the league office announced on Wednesday.

In a pair of competitions this past weekend, Martin broke UIC's 100 backstroke record with a 57.90 first-place effort against Youngstown State on January 30. The previous record was held by Kelly Streder with a 58.00 clocking, set in 1993.

The following day at Western Illinois, the freshman from Waukesha, Wis., picked up a pair of wins in the 200 free (1:59.25) and 200 back (2:07.30) against the Westerwinds.

As of Wednesday, Martin currently leads the Horizon League in the 100 backstroke and has the second-fastest time in the 200 back.

She currently leads the Flames squad in both backstroke events as well as the 200 IM.

The Flames close out the regular season at home against Cleveland State on Saturday, February 7 at noon.
