CHICAGO – UIC sophomore Kei Ishimaru was named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, junior Whitney Johnson was named Horizon League Diver of Week and Sophomore Mark Ciesielski was named Horizon League Diver of Week for Jan. 4 - Jan. 11 the League office announced on Tuesday. This marks the fifth award for the Flames this season.
Ishimaru, a Sycamore, Ill. native was an unstoppable force taking first place in the 100 butterfly (50.87), 200 fly (1:53.84), and 200 IM (1:54.22) on Jan. 11, in the Flames 159-141 loss to Green Bay. This marks the second-career honor for Ishimaru.
Wheaton, Ill. native, Ciesielski, took top honors on the three-meter board in the meet against Green Bay with a score of 281.32. He also placed third on the one-meter board with a final score of 253.65. This is the first-career honor for Ciesielski.
Johnson, a Roscoe, Ill. native claimed first on the three-meter board with a final score of 264.97 and achieved a score of 244.20 on the one-meter board taking second place on Jan. 11 when UIC was defeated by Green Bay 191-106. This is Johnson’s second award this season and eighth-career honor.
The Flames return to competition on Saturday to take on Horizon League foe Valparaiso at 1 p.m. (CT). The meet will be held at the Flames Natatorium.
