Dec. 29, 2003
Chicago, Ill.- With almost two months separating their last meet and their next meet, the University of Illinois at Chicago swimming and diving teams took advantage of the break by traveling to beautiful Winter Haven, Fla., for a winter training trip that included a stellar team effort at the FGC Sprint Championships on December 20th.
The UIC women looked impressive, led by sophomore Aisha Williams' three individual event victories. Williams took the 50-yard freestyle in 25.33, then went on to capture the 50-yard butterfly (26.94) and the 100-yard IM (1:03.54).
Freshman Kelly Hyatt continued her outstanding freshman campaign with a strong training trip. Besides finishing second in every event that Williams won, Hyatt took second in the 50-yard backstroke behind fellow Flames freshman Jessica Darud and third in the 50-yard breaststroke, following second-place finisher Alicia Perry.
On the men's side, Ari Bernstein led a balanced UIC attack with a win in the 50-yard butterfly, a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a fourth-place standing in the 100-yard IM.
