Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams scored dominating victories over Butler on Saturday in a Horizon League dual meet at the UIC Natatorium.

UIC's women's squad (4-2, 2-2 Horizon League) bowled over the Bulldogs with a 134-73 win, while the Flames' men's team (4-1, 3-1 Horizon League) toppled Butler's men, 126-77. The Flames were in control the entire time against the thin squads of the Bulldogs, who did not compete in the diving portions of the meet.

For the men, senior Enric Claret followed up his spectacular performance at the UW-MIlwaukee Quad Meet on November 8th with another marvelous showing. Claret, the reigning Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.41 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly behind teammate Kris Simos.

The Flames were also paced by sophomores Ari Bernstein, LeRoy Stevens and Bill Hare, who each scored individual wins on the day.

Freshmen turned out to be the keys to a team win for the Flames' women. Newcomers Kelly Hyatt, Jessica Darud, Carlie Schoaf and Emily Biancalana combined for five first-place finishes on Saturday. Hyatt won two events to lead the women, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 25 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.31.

Veteran juniors Christine Hare (200-yard freestyle) and Alicia Perry (200-yard IM) were also individual winners for the Flames.

The Flames treated the last six events of the meet as exhibition heats after the victories were in hand.

UIC's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action next Saturday, November 22nd as the Flames host Western Illinois and Saint Louis in a three-team meet at the UIC Natatorium. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
