Men's Swimming Splits Weekend at UW-Milwaukee
Nov. 13, 2000 MILWAUKEE, WISC. - The University of Illinois at Chicago men's swimming team fell just short of earning a weekend sweep at the UW-Milwaukee triangular on Saturday, despite two victories apiece from seniors Diego Lora Coronado and Charlie Rock. Lora Coronado's victories in the 100-meter breaststroke (59.71) and the 200 breaststroke (2:07.44) helped propel UIC to a 196-83 victory over Northern Iowa, but it wasn't enough as the Flames dropped a 155-138 decision to the host Panthers. Rock captured the 1-meter (275.75) and 3-meter diving (275.05) events for UIC. Other individuals that garnered victories for the Flames include Tom Schwingen (100-freestyle, 47.47), David Kimmerly (200-meter backstroke, 2:00.54) and Paul Torres (400 individual medley, 4:14.05). The women's team was not quite as successful as UW-Milwaukee (206-93) and Northern Iowa (177-121) each earned decisive victories over the Flames. Stephanie Murphy paved the way for the Flames with victories in the 50-meter freestyle (25.82) and the 100-meter freestyle (55.16). Junior Adrienne Turri was also victorious in the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.04) while fellow junior Andrea Bove earned the 1-meter diving event title with 223.45 points.
