    Chicago, Ill. On a long afternoon at the UIC Natatorium, the University of Illinois at Chicago swimming squads persevered through their lack of depth, but did receive some good news, as previously injured Flames made their return to action and the men's team picked-up a win on Saturday afternoon.

    In dual meet action, the UIC men's team went 1-1, as it knocked off Evansville, 143-131, to record the first win of the year for the Flames, while UW-Milwaukee got past the Flames 182-105.

    In the women's race, the Flames were downed by Evansville (166-117), UW-Milwaukee (189-106) and Northern Iowa (191-95) to finish 0-3 on the day. Complete team results are listed below.

    The men were once gain led by the diving exploits of Michael Magee, as he won both diving events, overcoming a balk in the one-meter competition.

    The reigning Horizon League Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week won the one-meter with a score of 242.95, while taking the three-meter with a score of 268.75.

    Saturday also marked the season debut of men's captain Enric Claret who was triumphant in return winning the 100-yard breaststroke out of the slow heat in 1:00.35.

    The men's team also had a good day in the relays, winning the 200-yard medley (1:37.48) and taking second by .03 in the 200-yard free relay (1:27.66) to UW-Milwaukee.

    The women's team received a pair of runner-up performances from freshman Laura Martensen.

    The winners of last week's league athlete of the week award, Martensen was second in the 1000-yard free (10:46.73) and the 500-yard free (5:16.80).

    Fellow newcomer Aisha Williams grabbed second-place in the 100-yard free in 54.83.

    For the women, Alcia Perry and Jamie Redway made their first appearances for the Flames, still recovering from injuries.

     

     

    The Flames will now hit the road next weekend, as they travel to Muncie, Indiana to take on Ball State and Xavier on Sat., Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
