University of Illinois at Chicago Interim Head Swimming and Diving coach Ina Harizanova knew what to expect at Saturday's season opening meet against Northern Illinois.

She expected a hard-fought battle with UIC excelling in the sprinting events. Harizanova was right on both accounts, but Northern Illinois defeated the women (150-143) and men (185-122) at the UIC Natatorium.

UIC received first-place performances from Stephanie Brane (50-yard freestyle, 25.82), Adrienne Turri (100-yard backstroke, 1:01.67), Jessica Jandak (100-yard breaststroke, 1:14.18), Diego Lora Coronado (100-yard breaststroke, 59.30), women's 200-freestyle relay (1:42.42) and the men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.04).

"The relays both won and I'm not surprised with the sprinting results," Harizanova said. "We're going to have to build our endurance more for the long events."

UIC also swept the diving competition on Saturday. Senior Charlie Rock won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 257.05 and 267.40 respectively. Junior Andrea Bove was also victorious in the 1-meter (222.20) and 3-meter (239.30).

UIC will host Eastern Illinois at 2 PM on Saturday, October 28.
