BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – UIC divers Mike Greco, Woody Lord, Kristi Carling and Whitney Johnson completed the first day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships on Thursday, hosted by Indiana University at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.

“The divers did ok today,” head diving coach Susan Bromberg said.  “It is a very tough meet and this is the first time that the UIC divers have been to the Zone Championships in several years.  The men dove consistently and finished right next to each other, which is the way that their season has been, while the women had some good dives and also a few misses.  Overall, the divers finished the day with a great attitude and are ready to come back tomorrow to compete.”

Through day one of competition, the men took to the three-meter board, while the women went off the one meter.

Finishing ahead of Joshua Gonzalez, a Horizon League competitor from Cleveland State, Lord posted a 247.00 in the three-meter prelims, while Greco came in close behind with 246.20.

Through the one-meter prelims, Johnson produced a 182.90, as Carling scored 177.90.

The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships continue on Friday at noon (CT).
