    BROWN DEER, Wis. - The UIC men's swimming and diving team remains in first place after three days and 30 events at the Horizon League Championships, highlighted by sophomore Steve Yemm's come from behind win in the 100 backstroke on Friday night.

    The Flames sit atop the six-team heap with 466 points, followed by Wright State (456), Cleveland State (441), Milwaukee (426), Green Bay (383) and Valparaiso (132).

    In the women's race, Green Bay overtook the lead with 622 points, ahead of Milwaukee (534), Wright State (411), UIC (404), Cleveland State (214), Youngstown State (197), Valparaiso (152) and Butler (99).

    In the first individual finals of the day, Luke Martinez finished in second (3:56.31) and Evan Dunn (4:00.63) fifth in the 400 IM, quickly followed by Kayla Redig's runner-up placing in the 100 fly (55.40) and Clair Martin's second place finish in the 100 back (56.03). All competitors easily re-set school records in their respective events.

    Steve Yemm rebounded after being DQ'ed earlier in the day in the 100 fly to claim victory in the 100 backstroke, winning the event in 49.43.

    After setting the school mark in the 200 fly last season at the league championships, Andrew Schmitt broke the 100 fly record with a second-place finish in 48.68.

    Brian Anderson continues to have a stellar showing at the championships, placing second in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.85, demolishing the school record by two seconds.

    Other top finishes for the Flames include Sarah Walsh placing third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.86), Courtney Eck in the 400 IM (ninth, 4:35.16), Konrad Korth (400 IM/eighth, 4:11.00), Andrea Belter (200 free, 1:55.24), Will Ikeda in the 100 breaststroke (56.69, fifth), Laurel Heath in the 1-meter finals (seventh, 208.50).

     

     

    The day closed out with both men's and women's 800 freestyle relays finishing fourth.

    The fourth and final day of the Horizon League championships concludes tomorrow with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, the men's 3-meter finals and the 400 free relay.
