Day One Of Horizon League Championships In The Books|

Chicago, Ill.- The 2004 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships opened with a bang on Wednesday, as fans witnessed two league records shattered, two new events and three UIC school marks broken at a packed UIC Natatorium.
Wright State's men set a new Horizon League mark in the 200-yard freestyle relay, using a time of 1:21.76 to propel the Raiders to first. The new time beat the old record of 1:21.96.
UIC joined in on the record-setting in the 200 free relay, with the men's team posting a 1:23.30 in the event that beat the old time of 1:23.41
The Flames' women's team also shined in the 200-yard freestyle relay, dashing a five-year old time of 1:38.48 by racing to a 1:38.39.
The Raiders got another league record in the women's 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:44.59. That time beat the previous league best of 1:45.39.
The host Flames continued their school record-breaking pace in the same event, turning in a 1:48.39 that shattered an 11-year record of 1:50.35.
Two events were added to this year's title tilt as the 1000-yard freestyle took place on Wednesday. Wright State's Julie Coghlan and Cleveland State's Daniel Thomasson set new league marks in the women's and men's events, respectively.
After six events, UW-Green Bay's women lead the pack with 134 points, while Wright State is clinging to a first-place lead with 124 points.
UIC's women are in fourth with 71 points, while the men are sixth with 60 points after one day in the books.
Diving preliminaries were also held Wednesday, with Kalyn Leveto of Youngstown State taking the top spot in the women's one-meter trials, while Wright State's Ryan Kellerman finished atop the men's trials.
The 2004 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships continue tommorrow with swimming prelims at 10:30, followed by the the women's one-meter diving finals at 3:30 p.m. The men's three-meter diving finals will take place during swimming finals, which begins at 6 p.m.
