CHICAGO – The UIC men’s and women’s diving teams concluded competition at the UIC Diving Invitational on Saturday at the Flames Natatorium. Mike Greco came away with first-place finishes on the 1-mtr and 3-mtr boards, as Whitney Johnson captured second in both events.
Beginning competition on the 1-mtr board, Greco, Connor Howard and Mark Ciesielski all placed in the top five with season- and career-best scores. Greco led all divers with an NCAA qualifying score of 326.00 for first place, as Howard produced his own NCAA score of 323.90 for second and Ciesielski claimed fifth with a 280.85 final.
Johnson and Grace Miller were able to come away with season and career bests as well, while competing on the 3-mtr board. Johnson came in second with an NCAA qualifying score of 306.50, behind Illinois State’s Wenting Zhang’s first-place 351.15, while Miller recorded a 239.55 for seventh out of the 21 competing divers.
On the 3-mtr board for the men, Greco took his second first-place finish with a season-best NCAA qualifying score of 359.65. Howard finished in fourth place with 312.50, a career and season best, as Ciesielski came in seventh with 263.25.
As the women took to the 1-mtr, Johnson posted the largest score of her career with an NCAA qualifying score and second-place 287.85, as Zhang came away with another first and a Flames Natatorium pool record of 319.80. Miller was able to place 10th after scoring 212.10.
The Flames return to competition next Saturday, when swimming & diving hosts Cleveland State for Senior Day at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Flames Natatorium.
