Valparaiso, Ind.- Even after a six-week layoff from dual meet competition, the University of Illinois at Chicago swimming and diving team showed no signs of rust in dominating road victories for both the men's and women's squads over Valparaiso on Saturday.

The UIC men took a 140-61 decision, while the women earned a 135-95 win.

UIC took 19 of the first 20 events, competing in the final six races as exhibitions.

Brian Kroes led the way for the men with two distance victories, taking the 500 and 1000 free events.

Seven different swimmers grabbed wins for the women. Leading the way was senior Stephanie Murphy, who continued her fine campaign two years removed from shoulder surgery with a win in the 100 fly (1:01.81).

Sarah Economides and Mark Pappalardo chalked up one-meter diving wins. The Flames went 1-2-3 on both the men's and women's sides of the event.

Ball State was originally scheduled to compete with UIC and Valpo at the meet, but blizzard-like conditions in Muncie, Indiana prevented Ball State from traveling.

UIC returns to action next Saturday in a Horizon League dual meet against UW-Green Bay in the home finale at the UIC Natatorium beginning with one-meter diving at 12:30 p.m. The swimming schedule of the meet starts right after diving, along with Senior Day festivities.
