UIC sophomore Kei Ishimaru was named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week and Sophomore Mark Ciesielski was named Horizon League Diver of Week for Jan. 4 - Jan. 11. The awards come after stellar performances at Green Bay. These were the fourth and fifth Horizon League award for the Flames that season.
Kei Ishimaru earned first place in the 200 butterfly at the Horizon League Championships with a time of 1:47.95. Elsewhere, the 200 Free Relay took home third place with a time of 2:59.19.
Flames' Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced the hiring of Tim Loeffler as UIC's new head swim coach on Tuesday afternoon, pending Board of Trustees approval. Loeffler will oversee both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs after serving as an assistant coach at Army and Michigan State.
The Horizon League announced Thursday (April 10) that five UIC student-athletes earned 2013-14 Winter Academic All-League recognition. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports.
The UIC men's and women's swimming and diving teams held their annual awards banquet and brunch Sunday (April 9) at the Holiday Inn- Merchandise Mart Plaza, where they acknowledged the 2013-14 season achievements and named the 2014-15 captains.
UIC Divers Connor Howard, Tyler Pastore and Whitney Johnson brought their season to a close Friday, as they concluded the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion after competing in the men's and women's one-meter and three-meter.
