Flames Capture Spirit Of The Season By Giving Back
Dec. 29, 2010
CHICAGO - During this busy holiday season several members of the UIC Flames Athletics family have spent time with others and spread a great amount of holiday cheer.
Members of the soccer and women's basketball teams spent a recent afternoon at the Gads Hill Center in the Pilsen neighborhood as part of the Hangin' With The Flames initiative. Gads Hill Center, which was founded in 1898, serves families in the Chicago neighborhoods of Pilsen, North Lawndale, Little Village, and Back of the Yards with programming that provides learning support and educational enrichment, early childhood development, and out-of-school care for children.
The student-athletes in attendance, which included soccer's Nazr Bodnarchuk and Peter Hanula along with women's basketball's Briana Hinkle, Kristin Petrinec, Heidi Dahnke and Shameia Green, spoke on the importance of a strong education and conducted mini clinics that featured some of the basic skills from each team's respective sport.
At Gads Hill, each student received a Bringin' the Fire to the Classroom cooler bag and Fresh Bites provided healthy snacks for everyone to enjoy.
UIC women's basketball players, cheerleaders and dancers also stopped by the George Collins Homes during its annual holiday party. The Flames passed out UIC Basketball caps and sang carols with the residents.
