Dec. 14, 2007

Chicago, Ill.- Following the UIC men's soccer team's historic run to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight, three Flames standouts were selected to the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Great Lakes Region teams.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) and senior midfielder Pavle Dundjer (Belgrade, Serbia/Zemunska Gimnazija) were named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region First Team, while senior midfielder Cesar Zambrano (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) was an All-Great Lakes Region Second Team pick.

Bubonja turned in a school-record 12 shutouts to help guide the Flames to their first Horizon League Tournament title since 2000 and UIC's first-ever Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament.

The second-year netminder allowed just three goals in the Flames' final nine matches, including an eight-match stretch prior to UIC's final contest in which he allowed only a penalty kick goal.

Dundjer capped off his final campaign in fine fashion. He became the first-ever four-time All-Horizon League First Team selection after scoring five goals and assisting on three others to help lead UIC to a Horizon League crown and the program's deepest run in NCAA postseason play.

Senior Cesar Zambrano became a two-time All-Region selection this week.

Zambrano, the 2007 Horizon League Tournament MVP and a three-time All-Horizon League selection, put up career-best single-season numbers in goals (six), assist (seven) and points (19) to lead UIC in all three categories and take the Flames to a Horizon League Tournament championship and the NCAA Round of Eight.

The honor was Dundjer's third consecutive All-Region honor and first-ever All-Region First Team selection. This is the second straight All-Region First Team award for Bubonja, while Zambrano became a back-to-back All-Region Second Team selection.

As First Team All-Region selections, Bubonja and Dundjer are eligible for NSCAA/adidas All-American consideration. The duo joins the top players from eight other regions as finalists for All-American honors from the NSCAA. The 2007 NSCAA/adidas All-American teams will be announced next week.
