CHICAGO – UIC men’s soccer assistant coach Minos Vlamakis has been named the 2013 Illinois Youth Soccer Association Boys Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach in Illinois soccer history to be named Illinois’ Youth and Amateur (2006 and 2007) Coach of the Year.  Vlamakis, who joined the Flames’ staff in 2007, was honored for his work with Raiders FC U17/18 Premier during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

The 2007 USASA National Coach of the Year began working with Raiders FC in the fall of 2011 and over the course of two seasons has helped them win a championship in the Illinois State Cup (2013), the Midwest Regional League (2012), the USYS National League (2013) and the Region II Championship (2013).  In both seasons, Raiders FC won their group at the USYS National Championships before losing in the National Championship match, the only team to make repeat appearances in the final.  During his tenure with the team, Raiders FC compiled a 52-7-7 record.

Upon the completion of the 2013 season, Vlamakis was able to help over 20 of his seniors move on to play collegiate soccer at the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.  Vlamakis and the team will be honored at the 22nd Annual IYSA Awards Banquet on March 7th, 2014.
