Chicago, Ill.- After closing out the regular season on Sunday, the UIC men's soccer team will open the 2003 Horizon League Men's Soccer Tournament with a quarterfinal match against Wright State this Saturday, November 8th, at 1 p.m. at Flames Field.
The Flames finished the regular season at 10-6-2, going 3-2-2 in league play to earn the fourth seed in the tournament. Wright State is currently 9-8-0 with a 3-4-0 record in Horizon League games, garnering the fifth seed. The Raiders close out their regular season tonight against Oakland at 7 p.m.
In their only other meeting of the season, the Flames pulled out a thrilling 2-1 victory in double overtime at Flames Field on October 27th. Freshman Eric Cervantes scored the golden goal in the 104th minute of the contest to give UIC the win and home-field advantage for Saturday's rematch.
UIC is undefeated in their last six conference quarterfinal matches. Last season, the Flames defeated Detroit, 5-1, in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual runner-up Cleveland State. Wright State lost a heartbreaker in the 2002 quarterfinals to Butler, 5-4 on penalty kicks, after fighting the Bulldogs to a 0-0 double-overtime tie.
The Flames are looking to win the Horizon League Championship for the first time since 2000.
Tickets for Saturday's game are $5 for adults and $3 for students, senior citizens and children. Tickets are only available at the entrance gates to Flames Field before the game on Saturday.
