Torres Named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO—UIC soccer player Jesus Torres has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period Oct. 14-21. The junior received his first honor as Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week against conference foes Milwaukee and Wright State. He was also named the Horizon Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
In the game against Milwaukee, Torres scored the lone goal in the 66th mark to give his team their eighth shutout on the season. This was the second game-winning goal for Torres and his fourth goal overall on the season. Against Wright State, the Chicago, Ill. native assisted on the goal that gave his team a 3-2 overtime victory and first place in the Horizon League standings.
During the two games, Torres collected two shots on goal off three attempts while collecting a goal and an assist for three points. He currently leads UIC (11-3-0, 2-0-0) and the Horizon League with eight assists and is also tied-for-third in the nation in the category.
The junior is the fourth men’s soccer player, and second consecutive, to be selected as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week
The Flames’ will next travel to Valparaiso, Ind., to take on the Crusaders on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT).
