Dennis King Earns Horizon League Soccer Player Of The Week Honors
Sept. 24, 2001 Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago sophomore Dennis King (Colona, Ill./United Township) has been named the Horizon League Soccer Player of the Week it was announced today. The midfield/forward tallied four goals in UIC's pair of wins last week over Loyola and Bradley to up his season total to a team leading 12 points on six goals in just four games played. Against Loyola on Wednesday, King turned in a three-goal effort to lead the Flames to a 6-2 victory in their league-opener. He notched UIC's first two goals of the game and then completed his first career hat trick in the 78th minute. His third goal was one of four the Flames' tallied in the second half to break a 2-2 halftime score. On Saturday in the 3-2 win over 22nd-ranked Bradley, King netted the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, a header, which was assisted by Kevin Brady (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles) and Josh Robinson (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles).
UIC, which has now won 18 straight outings against teams from the State of Illinois, will look to make it 19 when it heads to Evanston, Ill., on Thursday, Sept. 27, for a 4:00 p.m. showdown with Northwestern. The Flames then return home on Sunday, Sept. 30, to meet up with Eastern Illinois at 2:00 p.m.
