    CHICAGO--Sophomore soccer player Jorge Alvarez has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period Sept. 9-15. Alvarez was one of the four UIC soccer players named to the Belmont Invitational All-Tournament Team after the Flames came away with their second consecutive shutout in the Belmont Invitational last weekend.

    In the first round of the Belmont Invitational, against Lipscomb, Alvarez made a combined total of three shots, one assist and scored the first goal of the game. He also assisted on the second goal of the game, which turned into a 2-0 win for the Flames. In the second round against, Belmont, the sophomore contributed one assist and two shots, to the Flames overall 2-0 win.

    Over the last three games, Alvarez recorded at least one point and scored the winning goal against Western Michigan. He also currently ranks in second place in both assists and goals this season in the Horizon League. The Flames will be back at home, hosting IPFW, on September 20 on the Flames Field.
