CHICAGO - Senior men’s soccer player Josh Beard will be providing Flames’ fans with an inside look into the 2013 squad with a weekly segment called ‘Blogging with Beard’.  Beard will blog about team traditions, traveling, memorable moments and many other aspects that make the UIC men’s soccer squad unique.  Aside from being a starting defender for the Flames, Beard is also a communications major with an interest in creative writing.

If Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake taught us anything this summer, it was that wearing a suit and tie is fashionable.  That is exactly the word you will be using when speaking about the UIC men’s soccer team when you see how we dress for travel.

This weekend, we are heading out to Nashville, Tenn., for two games on Friday and Sunday, and we will be dressed for travel with our suit coats and ties.  There is room for customization, as you may see our coach rocking his khakis along with his dress shirt, tie and suit coat.

Some of us will be wearing your traditional suit, which entails dress pants, dress shoes, a button down shirt, a tie and a nice suit coat to top it all off.  The suit and tie is not the first option for every player, since Tennessee is going to be very hot, but it is very professional.

The first time we travel in our suits is always a rather enjoyable time.  We get to see what kind of wardrobe some of the freshmen have, as well as being able to out-do one another in terms of style.  There is always that one player that tries to go above and beyond, but fails.  This always provides a good laugh for the squad and a good memory that we can look back on in the future.  For me, I will never forget the time when a former teammate showed up wearing an all white get up, even his shoes.

Fashion isn’t always the first thing on the mind of our team, as most of us wear a t-shirt and shorts to class, but when we travel, we pull out all the stops and dress to impress.
