Men's Soccer Hosts No. 13 Georgetown, FIU to Open Home Slate
Sept. 5, 2012
CHICAGO - The UIC men's soccer team will play its first two regular season home games this weekend, hosting No. 13 Georgetown on Friday night beginning at 7 p.m., and FIU on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both the Hoyas and Panthers enter this weekend's slate of games undefeated on the season. A full slate of promotions is set for both matches at Flames Field. "Our guys are excited about returning home after playing three games on the road," said head coach Sean Phillips. "The support that our fans have showed us over the years has been tremendous. It will be great to be back on our surface, and to have our fans in attendance to support us. We hope to produce two great performances and a pair of good results this weekend."
On Sunday versus FIU, "Camper Day" will be the featured event. All UIC Soccer Camp attendees will receive free admission upon wearing their camp T-shirts. They will also be invited to a postgame autograph session with members of the Flames. The Panthers are also unbeaten on the season, having defeated Bryant University, and in-state rivals North Florida and Jacksonville. FIU will travel to Madison, Wis., to take on Wisconsin Friday night. UIC is coming off a 1-0 setback at No. 20 Marquette last Friday, in its third-straight road game against a BCS Conference opponent. The Flames enter this weekend's homestand with a 1-2 overall record after defeating host Ohio State, 2-0 on Aug. 26. Senior midfielder Ivan Stanisavljevic, junior forward Ned Pavlovic and junior defender Zach Kaleta have each scored one goal on the season. Junior goalkeeper Piotr Kikolski has started all three contests, posting a 1.00 goals-against-average. Georgetown's Jimmy Nealis and Brandon Allen were both named BIG EAST Conference Players of the Week on Monday after the Hoyas went 3-0 for the week. Nealis was named the League's Defensive Player of the Week and Allen earned Rookie of the Week honors. Allen, a freshman frontrunner, leads the Hoyas with three goals and six total points this season. FIU is being led in scoring by sophomore forward Quentin Albrecht, who has scored four goals this season, including a pair of game-winners. Freshman goalkeeper Robin Spiegel has started all three of the Panthers' four games, earning two shutouts while posting a 0.35 GAA.
