Chicago, Ill. - The 2003 UIC men's soccer team was pegged for a second-place finish behind nationally-ranked UW-Milwaukee in the Preseason Horizon League Coaches Poll released this morning.

The Flames received three second-place, two third-place and two fourth-place votes for a total of 36 points, one point ahead of Butler (35), which ranked third in the poll. The Panthers, who rank as high as #11 in the country in preseason polls, collected seven first-place votes for top honors.

Rounding out the poll, Wright State was picked fourth (30), followed by Cleveland State (29), Detroit (24), Loyola (13) and UW-Green Bay (8).

UIC, which went 10-8-2 last year, returns seven regulars this season, including two-time leading scorer Dennis King, as well as 2002 All-Horizon League First Team defender Adam Jones and 2002 All-Horizon League Newcomer Team goal keeper Ross Cain.

The Flames open the season on September 3rd, when they host Marquette at Flames Field at 4:00 p.m.
