Jovan Bubonja Named To Hermann Trophy Watch List
Aug. 11, 2009
CHICAGO- UIC senior goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) was selected to the 2009 Watch List for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
This is the second consecutive year that Bubonja is on the Watch List for the top individual honor in intercollegiate soccer. He finished as a semifinalist for the award last season and is among 38 Division I players, including one of just two goalkeepers, in the early running for the Hermann Trophy this fall.
"A tremendous honor once again for Jovan," said UIC head coach John Trask. "When looking at the past winners, it has been 20 years since a goalkeeper has received the award [Virginia's Tony Meola won in 1989]. Jovan has the ability to win this award, and I hope for UIC and the program that it is high on his list of priorities for this season."
Bubonja returns for his fourth campaign with the Flames in 2009, with credentials that already make him the most decorated goalkeeper in UIC history.
Last season Bubonja earned First Team All-American honors from both NSCAA/adidas and College Soccer News after posting a 12-3-6 record with 10 shutouts, a goals-against average of 0.63 and 57 saves.
In 66 career matches, Bubonja is 36-11-17 with 32 clean sheets, 188 saves and a goals-against average of 0.52.
