CHICAGO – UIC head men’s soccer coach Sean Phillips announced the Flames’ 2014 spring schedule on Monday. UIC is set to face Northern Illinois, DePaul, Wisconsin and Saint Louis during the month of April, with a fifth opponent to be determined.

“The players have been putting in a tremendous amount of work this off season,” Phillips said. “Their work has been very characteristic of a hungry group striving to become better at every opportunity.  We are looking forward to these challenging games to measure the progress.”

The Flames will begin action on April 5 with a 6 p.m. CT matchup against Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill., before heading to the Chicago Cup, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., on April 12 to face DePaul at 2:15 p.m. in the opening round. The winner will move on to the championship, where they will face the winner of the Northwestern and Loyola match, with a consolation game set for the teams who do not advance.

UIC then heads to Madison, Wis., to take on Wisconsin on April 19 at 1 p.m. and returns home to host Saint Louis at 3:30 p.m. on April 26 at Flames Field. The Flames are looking to add a fifth match, which will be determined at a later date.

UIC returns to competition after a decorated 2013 season which produced the program’s winningest regular season record (15-3-0), the first perfect conference record (7-0-0) and the fifth all-time Horizon League regular season title. After going 16-4-0 overall and winning 16 of their last 18 games, the Flames had nine players named to the All-Horizon League teams, including returners Jesus Torres, Andrew Putna, Thomas Villamil, Gonzalo Romo and Kyle Hamann, and four receive All-Great Lakes Region recognition, with Torres being named to the Third Team.
