Former UIC Soccer Standout Jay DeMerit Invited To U.S. National Team Camp

Chicago, Ill.- Former UIC men's soccer standout Jay DeMerit was invited to the U.S. Men's National Team training camp to prepare for upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala, U.S. Soccer announced on March 15th.
DeMerit, currently playing for English Premier League club Watford, is among 24 players selected for the camp and one of 13 U.S. players summoned from clubs based in Europe.
"Both Frank [Simek] and Jay have played big roles with their respective clubs in England," said U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley. "We're all excited to get to know these players and see where they fit in."
The U.S. Men's National Team will train at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. DeMerit will seek his first-ever cap in the match against Ecuador, which takes place on March 25th at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
DeMerit and the U.S. will then face Guatemala on March 28th at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
The U.S. is preparing for the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2007 Copa America that take place this summer.
DeMerit, a three-time NSCAA All-Midwest Region defender for the Flames, played for UIC from 1998-2001.
