SYDNEY, Australia - After serving on the coaching staff of the United States Under-18 Men's National Team during a 72-man mega-camp in Carson, Calif. from Dec. 28 through Jan. 4, UIC head men's soccer coach John Trask is now in the land down under preparing the U.S. U-18 side for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

The festival, which runs from Jan. 9-19 in Sydney, will be the first international event under U.S. U-18 head coach Mike Matkovich and his recently-selected 18-man roster. Trask is serving as an assistant coach on Matkovich's staff.

The U.S. will face Chile this Thursday, Jan. 15, China on Friday, Jan. 16 and Australia on Sunday, Jan. 18.

"First of all, I would to thank coach Matkovich and the U.S. Soccer Federation for this unique opportunity," said Trask. "Anytime you can represent your country and work with the best players the United States has to offer is a tremendous privilege. The 72-person camp in Los Angeles was very well-run, and I'm looking forward to working with these special players.

"The competition will be tough, but what a great opportunity for these young players to play against some great teams."

Special thanks to U.S. Soccer for information provided in this story.
