The UIC soccer team secured home-field advantage throughout the rest of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference playoffs with a 5-0 victory over Cleveland State at Flames Field on Tuesday. The Flames will take on UW-Milwaukee at 1:00 PM on Saturday in the semifinals at Flames Field.

"It was a nice performance," UIC head coach Sasha Begovic said. "Everyone played superbly. It was an all-around good game. I can't say enough about the entire team."

The Flames (14-3-2) dominated the entire match as they ripped off a season-best 34 shots and five goals. But early on Vikings' goaltender James Kryger was up to the task against the potent UIC offense. Eric Lukin, the two-time Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, had something to say about that.

The senior forward knocked in a Greg Chrisman rebound to give the Flames an early 1-0 lead for his 13th goal of the season at the 26:40 mark of the first half. Kevin Brady also assisted on the play.

The Vikings' best scoring chance came with 1:15 left in the first half as Pichou Etinde misfired a head shot off a crossing pass from Ole Christian Haugen.

MCC All-Newcomer selection Jake Stasko increased the Flames' lead to 2-0 with his 11th goal of the season at the 50:30 mark of the second half. Bruno Rasich and Lukin assisted on the play.

Josh Robinson extended UIC's lead to 3-0 with his first collegiate goal of his career at the 77:34 mark of the game. Rasich garnered his second assist of the day on the play.

Less than two minutes later, Mooch King converted his first career penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season as he beat Kryger to his right to put the game out of reach for a 4-0 UIC lead at the 79:10 mark.

Junior defenseman and first-team All-MCC selection Jay DeMerit turned the game into a rout as he headed a Brett Wienke corner kick in for his third goal of the season to give the Flames a 5-0 lead.

UIC goalkeeper Chris Jamal stopped three shots for his ninth victory of the season. Freshman Scott Greene relieved Jamal and made four saves of his own.
