Chicago, Ill. - The UIC soccer team had its 20-game home winning streak come to an end Friday afternoon as Wisconsin-Green Bay shutout the Flames, 2-0, in Midwestern Collegiate Conference action. Prior to today, UIC had not dropped a game at Flames Field since the Detroit Titans picked up a 3-0 win on Oct. 19, 1997.

The loss, which is the first time in 29 games that UIC has been shutout, also ended the Flames' 10-game unbeaten streak, which was the second-longest in the country. With the win, UW-Green Bay improves to 8-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in MCC action while UIC fell to 7-2-2 and 2-1-1 in league play.

UWGB took a 1-0 lead just 18:30 into the game as Brian Giovinazzi floated a shot towards the goal that deflected off the left post to a waiting Dennis Detrie, who headed it in past UIC goalkeeper Chris Jamal.

The Phoenix then extended their lead to the final margin, 2-0, in the 63rd minute of the game as goalie Josh Lynk punted a drop kick well into the Flames' zone. Nick Lessard took the pass, beat the lone Flames' defender in his way and threaded the shot just inside the left post, past a diving Scott Greene.

Lynk turned in a tremendous effort in leading his squad to the victory as he made seven saves on the afternoon, including a penalty kick by UIC leading-scorer Eric Lukin in the 70th minute. The 1999 MCC Player of the Year, Lukin had seven shots today, but couldn't put one on goal.

UIC dominated in the shots department, outshooting UWGB, 20-6, but couldn't finish on numerous chances.

"Our midfield did a great job today of getting the ball to our forwards, but they just couldn't finish," UIC Head Coach Sasha Begovic said. "Wisconsin-Green Bay made the most of their opportunities and we didn't - end of story."

UIC will look to start a new streak on Sunday, Oct. 8, when Cleveland State visits the Windy City for a 2:00 p.m. contest at Flames Field.
