Final Stats

Evanston, Ill. - Jake Stasko's (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) goal in the 83rd minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the UIC soccer team to its fourth straight victory, a 2-1 decision over Northwestern Thursday afternoon.

The Flames (4-3-0), who dominated the play for most of the first half, got on the scoreboard first at the 21:02 mark on rookie Patrick Grange's (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) fourth goal of the season. Defender Joe Morelli (Holly, Mich./Brother Rice) sent the ball ahead for Micah Howser (Austin, Texas/McNeil), who worked it down low to the right of the goal. Howser then crossed the ball over to a waiting Grange, who headed it with authority past Northwestern goalkeeper Ryan Pederson.

The Wildcats (0-5-2) came back to tie it up in the 75th minute of the second half as Dan Doman netted his first goal of the year. A crossing pass by Andew Wade reached Doman near the far right post and, after Flames' defender Josh Robinson (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles) was pushed into the goal, Doman knocked the ball in.

Stasko, however, gave the Flames the lead for good just over eight minutes later as Jay DeMerit (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) lofted a long ball ahead to a breaking Stasko, who beat out the defense and rolled it past Pederson. UIC finished the game with 19 shots, including six on goal.

Flames' goalie Jeff Kusiciel (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) picked up the victory after making five saves.

UIC, which has now won 19 straight games against schools from the State of Illinois, will to make it 20 on Sunday, Sept. 30, when it hosts Eastern Illinois at 2:00 p.m.
