Soccer Improves To 7-1-1 With 20th Straight Home Victory
Sept. 27, 2000
Chicago, Ill. - The UIC soccer team won its seventh straight game this afternoon, 3-0, over the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers to improve to 7-1-1 for the year and 2-0 in Midwestern Collegiate Conference play. UIC also extended its home winning streak to 20 consecutive outings, which matches the sixth longest streak in NCAA history, while its current eight-game unbeaten streak in second longest in the country. The Flames wasted no time in taking the lead this afternoon as Jakob Stasko (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) and Joe Morelli (Holly, Mich./Brother Rice) hooked up for UIC's first goal of the game at the 9:14 mark. Morelli sent a beautiful indirect free kick to Stasko, who headed the ball in from five yards out. After taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, Flames' leading scorer Eric Lukin (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) put the game away for good, scoring UIC's two second-half goals. His first tally came in the 59th minute as Greg Chrisman (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) stole the ball at mid-field and passed it forward to a breaking Lukin who tucked it just inside the left post. Lukin's second goal, and ninth of the season, came on a penalty kick in the 81st minute. UW-Milwaukee, which was outshot 19-10 by the Flames, had all six shots on goals stopped by UIC goalkeeper Chris Jamal (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and it really didn't put together a quality scoring chance. Jamal, who played the full 90 minutes, picked up his fifth win of the year to improve to 5-1-0 while the shutout was UIC's fifth this season.
The Flames continue MCC play on Sunday, Oct. 1, as they head to Detroit, Mich., where they will take on the Detroit Titans at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
