Sept. 9, 2001 Memphis, Tenn. - The UIC soccer team had its offensive struggles come to an end Sunday afternoon at the Memphis Diadora Invitational against the hosts from Memphis as the Flames rolled to a 4-0 win for their first victory of the season. UIC, which had tallied just two goals in its first three games of the season, got on the board quickly against the Tigers today as junior Jake Stasko (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way) buried his first goal of the season just 13 minutes into the match. Senior Kevin Brady (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles) immediately upped the score to 2-0 less than a minute later for his first goal since his rookie year with junior Bruno Rasich (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) drawing an assist. After coasting into halftime with the 2-0 lead, sophomore Dennis King (Colona, Ill./United Township) responded with his second goal of the weekend in the 46th minute and the rout was on. Rasich picked up his second assist on the tally. Junior reserve Pete Kelley (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) scored his first collegiate goal on an assist from rookie Patrick Grange (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) in the 59th minute to round out the Flames' scoring. Rookie goaltender Jeff Kusiciel (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) earned his first collegiate victory with the shutout while the UIC improves to 1-3 on the year.
The Flames will head north for their next action, as they'll participate in the Green Bay Fila Classic on Sept. 15-16. UIC is scheduled to meet Drake on Saturday and will conclude with Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
