CHICAGO - The UIC men’s soccer team wrapped up its 2013 preseason with a record of 1-1 as the squad dropped their exhibition finale against Northern Illinois by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Flames Field.  After a scoreless first period, the Huskies netted two goals in the second stanza to claim the triumph.  Both teams each recorded 14 total shots in the contest.

"We created several chances tonight and continued to gain valuable experience," said head coach Sean Phillips.  "Our heavy legs from hard practices combined with our win over Wisconsin on Monday was a bit too much tonight.  Our guys showed some incredible toughness, but now we will focus our energy on the start of the regular season."

NIU’s Issac Kannah tallied the game’s first goal with an unassisted boot at the 61:48 mark.  Teammate Bertrand Gaschot tacked on the final score with less than three minutes on the clock as the assist came from James Stevenson.

The Flames won their first exhibition matchup this past Monday night at home against Big Ten-foe Wisconsin, 2-1.

UIC will make its regular season debut on Friday, Aug. 30 against Eastern Illinois at Flames Field with start time scheduled for 7 p.m.  The squad will then host UC-Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. in part of a four-game homestand to commence the 2013 campaign.
