    Dan Simek, a four-year letterwinner for the Flames from 2005-2008, returns to UIC as an undergraduate assistant coach for the 2009 campaign.

    Simek, a member of the first recruiting class of the John Trask era, appeared in 53 matches during his UIC career. He totaled five goals and three assists during his tenure with the Flames and was a part of three NCAA Tournament runs, including UIC's memorable Elite Eight journey in 2007, in addition to two Horizon League regular season champions and the 2007 Horizon League tournament champions.

    A native of LaGrange, Ill. and a graduate of Lyons Township High School, Simek played at the club level for Sockers FC Chicago.

    2008: Appeared in seven matches as a reserve...scored a goal against Cleveland State on Sept. 26.

    2007: Appeared in 21 matches, earning the starting nod on seven occasions...tallied a personal best three goals this season for six points...scored the Flames' final goal in a 3-0 victory in the regular season opener against Marquette on Sept. 2...registered markers against Western Illinois (Sept. 18) and Florida Gulf Coast (Sept. 23).

    2006: Saw action in 10 matches for the Flames...recorded three points on the year with a trio of assists...tabbed a pair of assists, both on Cesar Zambrano goals, in UIC's 3-0 win over UMKC on Sept. 1...picked up an assist on the Flames' lone tally in a 1-1 draw at Cal Poly on Sept. 10.

    2005: Played in 15 games, making two starts...scored a goal to post two points on the year...scored his first collegiate goal against Detroit on Sept. 25.

    Prep/Personal: Three-year letterwinner for Lyons Township...guided the Lions to the 2004 West Suburban Conference championship...two-time all-area selection...All-West Suburban selection in 2004 and 2005...all-state third team selection as a senior...played for Sockers FC Chicago...helped Sockers to a State Cup and a qualifying spot for the Dallas Cup Supergroup...born January 30, 1987...son of Frank and Susan Simek...majoring in business management.
